Aphantasia
Aphantasia is a circa 30-minute long audio-only game demo made in order to explore the concept of audio-only games as well as sound as a binaural user interface.
This game demo was conceived, planned, and executed by myself and would later be the focal point for my BA dissertation.
Built in Unity, Aphantasia uses a standard 3D first-person control scheme with basic geometry marking the playable space. The brunt of gameplay, interactivity, and worldbuilding is provided by the audio, powered by Fmod.
The audio in Aphantasia is carefully designed in order to provide a playable experience in a game without visuals while delivering an open-ended short story. Binaurally decoded audio is frequently used in order to help pinpoint sound queues in 3D space.
The full game demo and related dissertation are freely available. If you're interested in either, please get in touch.
